We Have Registered!

Robert Louis Stevenson once wrote, “I am in the habit of looking not so much to the nature of a gift as to the spirit in which it is offered.”

With that in mind, should you feel moved to give a gift on the occasion of our wedding, we have registries started in a few places, and as you may know, are also saving for a house.

Where to Stay for Our Wedding

If we were getting married in any other city, nabbing a hotel for our wedding might not be an issue. But San Diego in July is, well, mildly popular for visitors. Plus, we happened to be getting hitched during another important San Diego event - ComiCon! Kevin Smith is already reserving hotel rooms - and so should you. Please please make reservations as early as you can!

We've set aside some choices to help you out:

The Bahia
(http://www.bahiahotel.com/)
A pretty resort on Mission Bay, the Bahia has garden view and bay view rooms, along with suites and studios. They are located on a finger of land that sticks out into the bay, affording them two private bay beaches. They also have a lovely pool area, exercise room, a restaurant, and a cool lounge. Interestingly, the lounge overlooks a pool in which 2 rescued blind seals live!

We are expecting the Bahia will be home-base for the family and adult friends. To reserve there, call Central Reservations at 800. 576.4229 and ask for Patricia. We were not able to set up a formal block, but Patricia should tell you that with a AAA or AARP card, garden view rooms for Th/Fr/Sat night are $203, and $194 for Sun/Mon/Tues/Weds (these rates are not guaranteed and will likely go up soon, so if you're interested in staying here, please call soon!). There is no deposit and full cancellation until July 23rd, but they do have a 3 night minimum. The Bahia is in walking distance to the beach and the lively Mission Beach boardwalk strip, which features shops, restaurants, bars, and the infamous Belmont Park, home of San Diego's only roller coaster! The Darlington House and other attractions, such as Sea World, Ocean Beach, the airport, downtown San Diego, and Balboa park are all within a 5 to 10 minute drive.

Ocean Villa Inn
(http://www.oceanvillainn.com/)
We've also reserved a block of rooms at the Ocean Villa Inn in Ocean Beach. These are motel-style rooms that overlook dog beach, a couple blocks from our house. All the rooms we've reserved are top floor ocean view rooms, and they are very comfortable. There's also a small pool and free continental breakfast. If you book before June 1, they are offering the rooms at $100 per night; after June 1 they will be $120 (I think regularly in the summer they are $159, so it's a steal either way). You can reserve one of these by calling 800.759.0012 and letting Kelly know you're part of the Scherer-Friedman party. The hotel is in walking distance to the beach and shops in OB.

Holiday Inn Express, La Jolla
(http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hotel/sanlj?_requestid=234503)
Finally, we've reserved a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express on the outskirts of La Jolla. Rooms here are $219 a night and include continental breakfast. There is a nice pool area, and while the hotel is not in walking distance to shops, it is a very short drive (a mile or so) to La Jolla Cove and the Darlington House. Plus, they have no 3-night minimum and a flexible cancellation policy. You can give them a ring at 800.972.2802 and let them know you are with the Scherer-Friedman party.

Randy + Lauri = The Darlington House!

We're very excited that on July 27, 2008 we will get married at the Darlington House!

http://www.darlingtonhouse.com/

The Darlington House is an historic property in San Diego. It was the home of Sybil Darlington, a philanthropist who made multiple expeditions to Southern Spain and Northern Africa to bring back, tile by tile, bit by bit, accouterments from which she built the many unique patios, gardens, parlors, and lounges.

It is also currently owned by the Social Service League of La Jolla, a non-profit that does do-gooder things for the elderly and generates income for those endeavors by renting out the Darlington House.

It is also 2 blocks from a beautiful beach on the end of Marine St., at which we will have some part of the ceremony, TBD:
